Terry Day and Brad Parrott have been playing music together for over ten years. Their genre is mostly singer-songwriter stuff from the ’60s and ‘70s – think Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (together and separately); James Taylor, John Denver, and the like. They also do some of their own compositions.
The Duo
Their instruments are acoustic guitar, bass guitar, harmonica, piano, and vocals. Terry and Brad focus a lot on their vocal arrangements, believing that good harmonies are the difference between something you’d like to listen to and something you’d like to turn down.
Meet Terry
Terry’s musical career began on the evening of February 9, 1964. The first Beatles song on the Ed Sullivan show was All My Loving, and Terry knew that song well because he’d been following The Beatles since the fall of 1963, when their songs were first played on radio in the US. Terry started playing guitar then, and his fingers have been calloused ever since.
Terry first gig was in high school as the bass player in The Great Society. While two of the five musicians went on to play professionally, Terry ended up in college as an engineering student. After 35 years of mechanical engineering and playing guitar for himself and his friends, Terry ran into a kindred spirit named Brad Parrott.
As a duo, Terry plays a lot of bass, acoustic guitar, some piano, and a little harmonica. He sings both lead and harmony. As a soloist, he performs vocals and plays acoustic guitar.
Meet Brad
At age 8, Brad was captivated by the guitar his dad bought while on vacation in Mexico. With one set of lessons under his belt, he began to learn chords on his own and by that next Christmas was playing and singing Christmas carols for the family parties.
A few bands in high school had Brad playing rhythm electric (lots of bar chords!), then in his first term at college his roommate had an acoustic Martin D18.
Brad fell in love with that big dreadnought sound and that’s when he got into fingerpicking and playing mostly soft rock.
While raising a family and focusing on his career took most of Brads time over the next few decades, there weren’t many days without a guitar in his hand, although much was as a “closet musician” as he puts it, mostly playing for himself, family and friends. Brad’s other passions include his family and snow skiing.
Then Brad met Terry. While in Terry’s business office, Brad recognized that the scrap of paper taped to Terry’s computer was a song list. Almost all the songs were ones Brad knew and loved! They’ve been playing together ever since.
Brad mostly plays the acoustic guitar, some piano and harmonica, and has been known to get his banjo off the wall once in a while. Terry and Brad both love the harmony part of making music while taking turns on lead vocals.
